Getting Started

This page provides a high level description of the recommended steps to start using RCMES.  These include downloading RCMES, getting acquainted with the basic workflow of RCMES, and learning how to tailor your own analyses.   We recommend stepping through this process as follows:

  • Read the RCMES Software Overview, noting the basic software architecture (Figure 1) and the training paradigm (Figure 2).
  • Download and Install RCMES
  • Walkthrough the RCMES Tutorials Overview.
    1. Command Line Interface (CLI) is meant to provide the user with a broad overview of RCMES workflow concepts but not for learning how to perform tailored model-observation comparison and analyses.
    2. Configuation Files (CFs) are the means to carry out more tailored RCMES analysis.  The examples higlighted in the tutorials are derived from peer-reviewed publications (e.g. CORDEX analysis by Kim et al. 2013) as well as other analyses that utilize various NASA observation and model products, obs4MIPs, CMIP models on ESGF,  etc.
    3. Open Climate Workbench (OCW) represents the most basic underlying software layer of RCMES, including how to add new analysis / metric calculations.
